As I posted the other day, it was reported that Top Gear UK was in the good ole’ US of A, once again. But what made this instance rather more intriguing was that they were in my backyard… the mountains of North Carolina. More specifically, they were at Blue Ridge Parkway.
Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to go up, I couldn’t, because I was in the middle of some work and an interview down in Wilmington, NC. However, Ryan, a fan/reader of RawAutos posted this comment yesterday on the last post about Top Gear being spotted in NC:
Yep, I live in Asheville and saw them when I went up to the mountains for the weekend. The 458 was screaming down a steep hill at probably 95 miles per hour. The other 2 were chasing him with the camera cars, it was pretty sick.
Then on Friday, Jim’s Garage had pictures of the Top Gear boys filming and driving at VIR (Virginia International Raceway), which seemed crazy. And once again, as if it were straight out of a fantasy, they showed up in NYC, and Jalopnik told everyone about it… with the idea of giving away a prize to someone who got Clarkson to say that he hates Jalopnik.com on film. Pretty brilliant, I thought. But I didn’t think anyone would get that close to the boys. Except, uh, two readers got that close, took pictures and got a video with Jezzer.
Just to answer the question of who had which car, I think it’s obvious that Hammond had the 911 GT3 RS, but it’s not so when it comes to May and Clarkson. The remainder of the cars were a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and a Ferrari 458 Italia. Which do you think was driving what?
Clarkson was driving the SLS AMG, and May was driving the 458 Italia.
Head over to Jalopnik to see the video of Jeremy Clarkson talking to the two gentleman who went out of their way to find them. Thank you, Top Gear, for being such a moving force in our automotive lives. Oh, and thanks for being so cool to your fans.
