Whenever a new name emerges on the list of major car manufacturers operating in the UK, there are obvious questions asked about how they may be different to others that are already established in the market. The manufacturing of motor vehicles is one of the biggest industries in the world and it has always played an important role in the UK’s overall economy.
Only a handful of major international vehicle manufacture companies are truly household names and this is usually the result of years of producing models, which become known for their reliability and standards of manufacture. Great Wall may be a new name to many, but their vehicles are becoming an increasingly common sight on roads in the UK – but what are they bringing to the table?
History
Having been established in the massive domestic Chinese automobile market for more than 35 years, Great Wall is now the biggest manufacturer of pick-up trucks and SUVs in China. It is their signature pick-up model ‘The Steed’ that has made the initial impact for the company in the UK, but by 2015, the company will have the capacity to produce at least 1.5 million vehicles each year for world-wide sales, covering its full range of sport-utility vehicles and pick-up trucks.
The Steed
The Steed was launched in the UK in 2012 and made Great Wall the first Chinese vehicle manufacturer to gain significant volume sales in this country. The company’s reputation is built on the use of state-of-the-art technology in commercial vehicles.
Advanced processes in their production across the whole range mean aspects such as galvanised panels and rust-proofed chassis are standard features, making Great Wall’s vehicles well-known for their longevity and reliability.
Safety
Many of the most successful car manufacturers have built their reputations by addressing safety issues and Great Wall is no different. All models have features such as twin air bags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution as standard, making commercial pick-up trucks from Great Wall some of the safest models of their kind.
SUVs
SUVs are also an important part of the company’s portfolio and the H6 is the next vehicle from their range to come to the UK. Already the best-selling SUV in China and outselling many of the established Japanese and European brands, the H6 continues the kind of appeal established by The Steed, with heated leather seats, Bluetooth-enabled stereo and many other high-specifications coming as standard.
By combining state-of-the-art technology with rigorous safety concerns, Great Wall is proving a hit with UK buyers and looks likely to become one of the most well-known manufacturers for high quality, cost effective vehicles.
