Joerg Mueller is one of BMW NA Racing’s ALMS hot shoes. Racing the BMW M3 GT for Team RLL, Mueller has been a factory BMW racer for many years now, driving everything from open wheel, all the way to Le Mans Series and Touring Cars for the brand.
I find it interesting, then, that he’s never driven Road America; a world famous circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This weekend is the 7th race of the season, with just three more until the end. You can watch the race a day later, Sunday, at 2:00 pm EST on ESPN 2, or the live stream of the actual race on Saturday the 18th, at 3:15 pm EST on ESPN 3.
Watch as Joerg, an amazing driver, gets up to speed on a course he’s familiar with on paper, in a BMW M3 road car, and then his M3 GT racer. It’s very cool stuff.
Oh, and take notice to Joerg Mueller taking his hands off the wheel, eyes of the track, and looking straight at the camera while showing you the map of the circuit that he knows little about. To me, a racing fan, it’s hysterical, but also goes to show the talent he has for this stuff. Granted, he didn’t seem to be going that fast while doing this maneuver. But let’s pretend he was traveling full speed.
