According to certain members over at the Teamspead forums, Porsche is readying a 500-hp send-off to the 997 911 chassis with a 500 car, limited production run of the GT3 RS.
Now how true this is, I have no idea. Porsche is mum at this point…
While this may seem rather dumb, weird, odd or totally unrealistic, take into consideration what Porsche has been doing recently; they’ve released 3 new special models in the last 6-months. The 911 GT2 RS, 911 GTS and the brand new 911 Speedster. So this could very well be true. But it could also be very false and a fun rumor to start.
It’s claimed to have a 4.0-liter 6-cylinder making 500-hp easy. What I speculate would go into this vehicle is most of the drivetrain from the 911 GT3 R Hybrid racing car. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a little red button for “extra” power? Pricing will be around the $200,000 mark.
If the 911 GT3 RS 500 is going to happen, it supposedly will be hitting the dealerships around June-July of 2011.
And let me say in closing: If Porsche do make this vehicle, the world will have literally become a playground for Porsche. They’ve been known to do a lot of limited editions, but for the 997 911 chassis alone, they would have made 21 different variations of the car. That’s every 911 model. As for special editions, that comes to only 4, provided they make this car. Does it ever stop?
